The author discusses theoretical and empirical issues concerning (a) additional positive emotions, (b) the social aspects of positive emotions, (c) safety and satiation as prerequisites for positive emotions, (d) an empirical definition of broadening, and (e) the dialectics of negative and positive emotions. It is hoped that this dialogue, together with the broaden-and-build model (B. L. Fredrickson, 1998 and 2000), will cultivate further scientific research on positive emotions.
